Once again you’ll see how counting notes is just like basic math. Put two quarters together and what do you get?
Half Note
2 Counts of Sound
Half Rest
2 Counts of Silence
The HALF NOTE gets its name from being exactly 1/2 of a WHOLE NOTE.
For every note, there is a rest of equal value.

Don’t forget, counting notes is like counting money:
2 quarters equal a half dollar. 4 quarters equal a whole dollar.
